No machine can give you a professional airbrush tan of the highest quality. You are trapped in a small space filled with spraying tanning solution where the machine is unable to pause in case you need to cough or sneeze. (No tanning solution should ever be ingested or breathed in.)

Whether it is a machine application or an application by another spray-tan service, 95% of the other spray tan services in the country use questionable chemicals in their solutions. They have been sold a bill of goods to save money on active ingredient and preservatives. The solutions they use contain VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) such as alcohol, glycol ethers and/or ethoxydiglycol. The chemical companies have sold them on these chemical solvents so that they can spend less on the active ingredient and have longer shelf life for their solutions. (It is about money - we spend more to make you safer by refrigerating our solutions when stored for any length of time and using the organic preservatives such as grapefruit extract - mentioned below - and using a higher concentration of the expensive active ingredient.)

These VOC's that the other spray-tan services use, as included in their ingredients, can be harmful if inhaled or applied to certain parts of the body. Ethoxydiglycol is recognized as having the ability to cause corneal damage when coming in contact with the eyes and is a known skin irritant. More importantly it can cause kidney damage from prolonged inhalation as well as dizziness, nausea, and gastrointestinal problems. When it decays one of the byproducts is formaldehyde. Worse yet, it is an ingredient that is included in ninety-five percent of the available solutions on the market at concentrations between five and ten percent. You should avoid using any product that contains this ingredient. (The FDA has approved the use of such chemicals in cosmetics but the use of them in aerosolized applications has not been studied.) We don't use these ingredients.

The active ingredient in our solution (and any solution elsewhere) is dihydroxyacetone, commonly referred to as DHA- which is the only FDA approved sunless tanning ingredient (which has been considered safe for topical application for 30 years). DHA is a colorless sugar derived from beets. DHA interacts with proteins and amino acids in the outer layers of your skin to produce a golden brown color- this is called the “Maillard Reaction.” We use only the finest ingredients and our solution contains the maximum concentration of DHA recommended by top cosmetic formulators. Our solution is a globally approved formulation which means that it contains no ingredient deemed harmful by any country including the United States.

Aloe Vera is an amazing plant with a wide ability to aid in the healing of skin, to protect, moisturize, and even extend life. It was used in ancient times for medicinal purposes, and its relevancy has not diminished today. Aloe Vera is a cellular regenerator and has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effects.

Glycerin has over 1500 known uses including many applications as an ingredient or processing aid in cosmetics. Glycerin is an humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin.

White Tea Extract has been proven to have effectiveness in boosting the immune function of skin cells and protecting them against the damaging effects of the sun. The discovery that white tea extract protects the skin from oxidative stress and immune cell damage adds another important element in the battle against skin cancer. They also found that the DNA damage that can occur in cells after exposure to sunlight was limited in skin cells protected by the white tea extract. Researchers believe that white tea extract’s anti-oxidant properties are the reason the extract was so effective and, if so, it also suggests that the agent may provide anti-aging benefits. The same process of oxidative stress in skin cells that leads to immune system damage can also promote skin cancer and photo damage, such as wrinkling or mottled pigmentation.

Grape Seed Extract is an extremely effective anti-oxidant, which may be up to 50 times more powerful than Vitamin E and 30 times more powerful that Vitamin C when it comes to fighting health-threatening “free radicals.” Grape Seed Extract also supports tissues containing collagen and elastin, and revitalizes aging skin. Some researchers also believe that grape seed extract helps Vitamin C enter cells, thus strengthening the cell membranes and protecting the cells from oxidative damage.

Citric Acid is a common ingredient in cosmetics. Vitamin C in general is thought an antioxidant that can help refresh skin and reduce the look of aging by promoting new skin growth and destroying free radicials. One of the best benefits of citric acid in all applications is that it is natural and poses little to no risk to the environment. Very few people are allergic to citric acid.

Skillful application of a spray tan requires knowing where to spray the most solution and where to spray the least. People's bodies differ in their response to the tanning solution so your feedback will help to improve your results on subsequent visits. One of the first signs of a poorly applied spray tan will be the hands and feet which will look bad when poorly applied. Tanning machines often create ugly hands and feet. The places should get less solution but the machine can't control the application in that way. (The feet can look especially bad when done by machine because gravity will rain down more solution instead of less in the booth.)
